Varsity soccer to face Palo Duro Friday
Following a hard-fought tie with Dumas Feb. 8, the boys varsity soccer team now has a district record of 0-4-2. They will face the Palo Duro Dons 7:00 p.m. Feb. 12 at the CHS soccer field.
Members of the team said they have maintained a positive outlook on how the rest of their season will go. Senior Tanner Macklin said he still looks at going to state as a serious possibility.
“We are practicing harder and harder,” Macklin said. “We started practicing on Saturdays and even sometimes Sunday just to get better. We want a movie to be made about us about how we started off our season 0-15 and then made it all the way to state.”
Senior Alex Morales said he agrees the team is making the most of their practice time.
“If we think big, I think we could make it to state,” Morales said. “My short term goals are to be at least second if not first in district and score more goals. At the beginning of the season we didn’t have a very deep defense, but when we played against Caprock, we lost 2-1 instead of 7-0 like we did earlier in the season.”
Morales said that despite the team’s losses throughout tournaments and in district, they have started to pick up some momentum.
“Our season started off way too slow,” Morales said. “It still hurts not to win, but we are coming back and we are coming back strong.”
