Senior Berkley Bowman sets the ball againt the Pampa Harvesters Aug. 25.

After a win on Aug. 25 against the Pampa Harvesters, the varsity volleyball team faced the River Road Wildcats in a short three set match on Sept. 1 at River Road High School.

The Eagles started the opening set off strong and swept the Wildcats 25-10. The Lady Eagles used the positive energy from the first match as momentum to go on and defeat the Wildcats easily in the remaining two sets 25-11 and 25-9.  Senior setter Berkley Bowman has taken her new responsibility of becoming a leader by setting an example for underclassmen.

“I’ve always looked up to the seniors and now I’m the one being looked up to, so it’s a lot of pressure, but I want to lead them and drive them to want to win as much as I do,” Bowman said. “I try to work hard as much as I can, always have a positive attitude and act how I would expect them to act.”

Bowman said the River Road game gave the Lady Eagles the opportunity to work on elements they had struggled with in their past seasons.

“A positive attitude and a lot of energy  helps when we are playing teams like River Road, so we don’t get down on ourselves and play to their level,” Bowman said. “In past games we get stuck in serve receive, so we have dedicated some practice time working on that aspect of the game as well as improving our hitting, so we can have a strong offense.”

The Lady Eagles season continued Saturday at Borger against the Lady Bulldogs, where they won after playing five sets. Their next game is tonight, Sept. 8, at Tascosa, where they will face the Lady Rebels. Bowman said when the fans come they set the tone and motivate the team to work harder for the win.

“I think we are going to do really well this year,” Bowman said. “I hope the fans can come so we can play with a lot of energy on the court.”
