The soccer teams will play against Randall tonight, Friday, Feb. 6 at home. The varsity girls’ game starts at 5 p.m and the varsity boys’ game starts at 7 p.m.

The girls’ and boys’ varsity soccer teams lost to Caprock Monday, Feb. 2. The boys lost with a score of 1-5 and the girls lost with a score of 1-6. Sophomore Elijah Guillen said the first half went well with a score of 1-1 but then Caprock scored four points during the second half.

“Let’s just say, we got a little relaxed and they came back,” Guillen said. “They found our weakness and then they scored one after the other.”

After the first half, sophomore Bryan Valdez said the team started to lose confidence.

“A normal score is like two or three goals,” Valdez said. “There were a few more goals than there should have been. We’ve been having a hard season, and our players aren’t really confident after losing every game.”

Guillen said the weakness in the game came from the outside defense.

“We are working on our defense, playing quicker and playing better as a team,” Guillen said. “We’re focusing on attacking better. We’re getting better and better. As the week goes on, we’ll be pretty good by the next game.”

To improve the strength of the team, Valdez said the team is spreading out more and using the width of the field to make better runs.

“The next game should be a good game,” Valdez said. “We need to beat Randall in order to go to playoffs. We should win if we stick together and play together. We just can’t let it go to our heads.”

Junior and varsity girls soccer player Taylor Hubbard said the girls’ game went badly.

“I think Caprock won because we didn’t have a very positive attitude,” Hubbard said. “Also, our midfield wasn’t working well together.”

Hubbard said the team has been taking steps to improve before the game Friday.

“We are fixing our attitudes and finding the best way to work successfully,” Hubbard said. “I believe we will do really well Friday. We have the potential and the skill to demolish Randall.”
