District basketball games begin tonight
The district basketball season will begin with the girls’ teams playing today in Dumas at 6 , and the boys’ teams playing at Palo Duro Jan. 16 at 7 p.m.
Players from both teams said they anticipate a good season this year and hope to go as far as they can.
“We had a rough start, but we are doing better,” sophomore Dayne Douglass said. “We hope to win more games in the future.”
Sophomore Lexi Hernandez, varsity girls’ basketball player, said they also anticipate a good season ahead as district begins.
“I feel like this season’s gone pretty good,” Hernandez said. “We’ve played a couple of teams and are getting better for district.”
With the morale of both teams in a good state, players from both teams said they have goals they want to accomplish as a team and as well as individual goals.
“I want us to improve as a team,” Hernandez said. “I feel like we will because we have a compacted team who plays well and gets better.”
Sophomore Wesley Crenshaw, varsity boys’ basketball player, said they hope to play well and do as best they can as a team.
“We want to win district, of course, but state is our main goal,” Crenshaw said. “We hope to go as far as we can and do as best as we can.”
Players from both teams said they hope to have as many fans watching the games this season as possible.
“We want fans to watch for support and to see our journey throughout the season,” Hernandez said. “They will see the way that we play as a team and the chemistry that we have.”
