Varsity baseball finishes season
The Canyon Eagle varsity baseball team ended their season with a district record of 10-3 and an overall record of 20-12. The Eagles were beat out of playoffs in a hard-fought series against the Frenship Tigers. One run made the difference in the first game.
“The umpire said that Braden Baker touched the ball with his glove while he was in fair territory,” senior Nelson Borchardt said. “That shouldn’t matter because the ball itself was foul.”
The Eagles rallied back the second game. Borchardt tied the game with a solo home run. The Eagles won the game thanks to an RBI from senior Blake Weaver.
Traveling to Lubbock the next day, the Eagles lost to the Tigers 6-2.
“We played good the first five innings,” junior Austin Baker said. “Then we just ran out of juice.”
Out of the 16 varsity players this year, only five will be returning.
“It was definitely a good year,” said junior Isaac Garland. “We are already looking forward to next year.”
