Volleyball season ends in five-set loss
The Lady Eagle volleyball season came to end last night at Wayland Baptist University in Plainview after a five-set loss to Frenship in the bi-district championship game.
Canyon won the first game 25-22, only to lose the following two games 24-26 and 20-25. The Lady Eagles forced a fifth game after winning game four 26-24. Frenship clinched the championship with a 9-15 win over Canyon in the fifth game.
“We tried really hard last night, but it just wasn’t the absolute best that we could have played,” junior Carley Nester said. “We should have beat Frenship.”
Nester said that the team struggled to figure out how to play together at the beginning of the season, but they got on a roll after they began to beat teams.
“We hit our peak at the right time after we beat Amarillo High going into playoffs,” Nester said.
Nester said that the loss was still settling in with the team before focus could turn onto next year’s season.
“(Coach Sara) Morath always says that we need to learn how to be winners, because we’re good,” Nester said. “We just have to learn how to beat people consistently.”
