Defense demolishes Caprock Longhorns
‘Shark Tank’ extends perfect season
The football team advanced to 8-0 after defeating Caprock 45-0 last night. The Eagles will face Amarillo High next Thursday at Dick Bivins at 7:30 p.m.
Caprock had an average of 30-points per game before last night. Not only did the Canyon defense hold them scoreless, but also held them to a total of five-yards offensively during the game. The only first downs the Longhorns received were due to Canyon penalties.
“Coming into the game we were pretty confident,” senior linebacker Dylan Douglass said. “I think that really started us off by coming out and being the more physical team and almost quite literally not letting them pass the line of scrimmage.”
Douglass said the defensive line excelled in not allowing Caprock’s quarterback to make plays, especially because the Longhorns are a passing team.
“I think having a win like this is allowing us to keep our confidence,” Douglass said. “I think it also helps us to realize how good of team we have this year. We shut out a district team, and only allowed five-yards of total offense, and our upcoming opponent allowed them 21-points.”
With Amarillo High next on the schedule, Douglass said that next week’s preparation will be extremely focused.
“I think that our biggest challenge is going to be Amarillo High,” Douglass said. “I think that the coaches aren’t going to allow any room for mistakes, but I don’t think our team is going to make mistakes though. We have a score to settle.”
