The girls’ track team competed at the District Meet at West Texas A&M April 11 and 12. The team placed third overall at the meet. Maya Jones (100 meters and shot put), Sommer Wilder (200m), Izzy Wilson (400m), Arin Rice (800m and 1600m), Christian Moreno (800m), Emily Martinez (3200m), Katie Beth Stafford (100m and 300m hurdles), Shelby Bartley (shot put and discus) and Lindy Pasley (pole vault) qualified as individuals for the Area meet. The 4x100m, 4x200m (Alexis Debord, Lindy Pasley, Maya Jones and Sommer Wilder ran both relays) and 4x400m (Brittany Gregory, Hannah Yerby, Arin Rice and Katie Beth Stafford) relays will also advance to Area.
Girls’ track coach Ray Baca said he liked how his runners finished at the meet.
“I was extremely pleased with the way our team performed,” Baca said. “Almost all of our girls had their best performances of the year and are peaking at the right time.”
Baca also noted how the girls trained throughout the year.
“This team is truly unique in that they are extremely hard workers that always have great attitudes,” Baca said. “We’ve had a lot of bad weather this year and they never once complained or thought we wouldn’t complete the work that was planned.”
Baca said his team continues to train and prepare for the next hurdle.
“Our girls are working hard as usual and plan to be their best at the Area meet,” Baca said.
