The small, white ball flew through the air; a veil of silence fell over the small practice group. The ball hit the ground and gained speed, rolling towards the hole. As he watched the ball disappear into the hole, senior John Brenner found himself at a loss for words.
During golf qualifying practice Wednesday, Oct. 3, Brenner made a hole-in-one on the second hole at the Palo Duro Creek golf course.
“I hit it and it was a little right of the green, but at the last second it hooked back left, bounced twice, then it just rolled and I just saw it disappear,” Brenner said. “I didn’t even register it at first, I was in shock.”
This is Brenner’s second semester on the golf team and has been playing for three years.
“It was my first hole-in-one and probably my last,” Brenner said. “They’re so hard to get.”
The second hole at the Palo Duro Creek golf course is a par three course, and Brenner said he mainly averages par when he plays there.
“I remember saying, ‘Did I just hit a hole-in-one,’” Brenner said. “I could not believe it.”
The varsity golf team will be playing in the Randall Triangular next Saturday at the Comanche Trail golf course and the JV team will compete in the Amarillo Tournament next Thursday.
