The varsity football team defeated the Plainveiw Bulldogs Friday night by a final score of 47-21.
The Bulldogs took the lead quickly, scoring within the first two minutes of the game after a quarterback sneak.
Canyon made it on the scoreboard with seconds left in the first quarter with a field goal by sophomore Ryan Guevarra. Senior running back Hunter Burrell scored twice in the second quarter, advancing the lead to 17-7.
After an interception by senior Jace Vessels, Burrell scored again with three minutes left in the second quarter. The Eagles led Plainview 24-7 at the end of the first half.
Canyon scored a field goal at the beginning of the third quarter, before the Bulldogs scored again, making the score 27-14.
The Eagles and the Bulldogs scored back to back to end the third quarter 34-21.
Senior wide receiver Graeson Cook scored with ten minutes left in the game, advancing the Eagles’ lead to 40-21. Cook also made an interception with 8:52 still to play in the game.
Canyon had the last score changing run with four minutes left in the game, with a touchdown by senior running back Steven Hansen.
“I thought we did phenomenal Friday and my offensive line did amazing,” Burrell said.
The Eagles will face Hereford in the homecoming game this Friday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
“I feel like we’re going to come to play on Friday and perform the way we know how to,” Burrell said.
