Google Certification Exam registration deadline set for Sept. 20

Students must register online by Sept. 20 to be part of the Google certification test.

Canyon Independent School District (CISD) will be the first in the nation to take part in a Google certification test covering applications such as docs, slides, hangouts, sheets and Google suite applications.

The test is scheduled for Sept. 27 at Midway High School, but any student wishing to sign up for the exam must do so by Sept. 20. The test is open and free to anyone. However, with only 270 slots available, registration for the test is limited.

“I think it will be a good experience,“ iConnect director Jessica Ray said. “It’s free right now. In a year, it will not be free. It’ll be $10 or $20.”

According to Ray, gaining a Google Certification can look good when pursuing future careers and further education.

“If they pass, it’ll look great on their resume,” Ray said. “It would be a good talking point in an interview or in a college entrance essay about how you were one of the first kids ever to have this opportunity.”

Once students have registered and chosen a time to take the test, the district will provide transportation from Randall High School to Midway Alternative High School where the exam will occur. Canyon High students must provide their own transportation to Midway.

“I think it’s a great opportunity,” Ray said.  “Our district is blessed to get to offer this test. It’s going to open doors for our kids.”
