The Texas Department of Transportation is making road improvements to 23rd St. and 4th Avenue. On top of the construction in town, North and South bound Interstate 27 between Amarillo and Canyon are also under construction.
For many people driving is a way to get away from the distractions of the world and decompress. With construction happening everywhere, stress and anxiety is being added to every part of our day. From the time you leave the house till you get home in the evening, it is constantly one construction cone after another.
Construction can cause changing traffic patterns without much warning. A change in traffic patterns throws people for a loop and adds more commute time. Having longer commutes throughout your day is inconvenient to say the least. Longer commutes take away from time we could be spending with our families and make us feel more rushed, stressed and anxious. This little bit of time could have been used to do more productive things like homework. This small change in routine is having many negative effects on our community.
When driving in construction, you need to pay a lot of attention and it is still dangerous. Slowing down and stopping in random spots leaves lots of room for accidents. Watching the people around you is very important, but not everyone pays attention and stays off their phone. This adds many hazards to an already dangerous situation.
Although all of the construction will improve the roads in our community, it is adding inconvenience to our lives right now. While these changes will make our roads safer in the future, it is bringing havoc into our already chaotic lives. Even though this will improve our community, it is not worth the stress and anxiety people are feeling right now.
In a fast paced world, construction is adding to people’s already high anxiety level. While construction may seem small, it is adding to the long and demanding days. This added difficulty makes driving harder for everyone involved.
