Junior, Deegan Scarborough, marches with the band at the homecoming parade. “It was a really long parade, it was really hot, but I had a lot of fun playing with the band and marching and supporting the school,” Scarborough said. “My homecoming was pretty fun. I brought my first date to the homecoming game and it was really fun.”

September 10th is finally here,” Rodriguez said. “I am very excited. I'm happy. Senior Kate Shepherd was recognized as a Commended National Merit Scholar by Principal Jennifer Boren on October 9. “It's an honor, and it's kind of exciting because it'll help a lot with college scholarships, and it's just a good thing to have on your application,” Shepherd said.

Students participate in the choir department's Java and Jams
The One-Act cast and crew placed seventh at UIL Regionals Monday, April 12, with their show, “Blue Stockings," finishing their season. The show tells the story of four young women fighting for education and campaigning to be allowed to receive a formal degree like their male colleagues. While pursuing their academic achievements, the women strive to prove they are equal to men.

Although the choir department could not host an indoor concert this year, members of the ovation choir, as well as students who auditioned, performed in Java and Jams Saturday, Jan. 31. The event was hosted in the breezeway. Several student musicians and bands performed, with a Palace Coffee drink cart available to attendees to complete the atmosphere. From the smooth vocals of senior Kat Clark and her band giving life to the show while she sings the lyrics of “Valerie” by Amy WInehouse, to assistant choir director Reece Kingcade jamming out in his own world while rocking to “Renegade” by Styx, read on to explore Java and Jams.

Hey there! I am Alexis Martinez and this is my final year on staff, and I’m really excited for what the future holds for the program as well as myself. I’m proud to say I will be the head editor this year for the Eagle’s Tale newspaper. Some things about me are love the color green, ducks, cats, and so much more (if you want to know more, just ask). I love being able to share stories, whether it be here on the newspaper staff, fictional stories that have a deeper meaning, blogging, or whatever. Hi, I'm Kade Shaltry. I am a junior at Canyon High and this is my third year in the journalism department and second year on the Eagles Tale Staff. I love being in the newspaper because of the people and environment I work in. A couple of things to know about me is that I love to build model cars and make things out of wood. I enjoy drawing, baking, and driving. I’m also involved in robotics, and we hope to make it to state this year. Thank you for your time and have a fun school year.

Hello there, my name is Brent Peterson and I am a junior here at Canyon. I am a big fan of Star Wars and Legos, and sometimes even Lego Star Wars. I recently moved from Oregon, where I did lots of fishing and hiking, the latter of which I’m not too sure I can do much of in Canyon. I am absolutely insane at Mario Kart and also the most humble guy you will meet. I like to play the drums and take photos. And since I am ginger, I lean heavily into any Irishness I have, however I absolutely hate lucky charms. See you if I ever do and if not, have a good life!

What’s shakin’ bacon! My name is Berkley Foster, I am a senior, and this is my third year in the journalism program. I am one of the Co-Editers for Social Media and podcast editor/producer. In school, journalism and academics are what I focus on. Though, outside of school I like playing sports like basketball or pickleball with my friends. I also play piano and lead worship at my church. I am so excited to see what we can accomplish throughout this year!!

For our school newspaper, I am a sports reporter and you will also see me taking pictures. Outside of journalism, I am a varsity tennis player. When I am not at school I enjoy anything sports-related, listening to music and taking late-night drives with friends. I just go here!

Hey y'all, My name is Ava Gomez and I am a yearbook staffer, this is my second year on the yearbook team and I am very thrilled to be back, I am a junior this year and I am also on the soccer team, the student council, the Leo club, also on the ASL Honors Society. What I love to do is read lots of books, ride dirt bikes, and cook as well as bake, I also love listening to music, I am a very big fan of country, Christian, and a few other genres.
