Students competed in the UIL District One-Act Play competition on March 5 at West Plains High School.
Canyon High School’s show, Anatomy of Grey by Jim Leonard placed third against seven other schools.
Theater teacher, Kylie Howell said they set the show in a church with an open concept so the actors have freedom and space to move.
“Our actors are strong musicians so we’re featuring a lot of singing and hymns that help with transitions from scene to scene,” Howell said. “It’s a unique take on it but it still fits within the story of Anatomy of Grey.”
Several students received individual awards that recognized their hard work; senior Alijana Stewart received Best Stage Manager award in the Technical Awards division, junior Aubrey Webb received an All-Star Cast award, juniors Reece Meyer and Trace Thomas received the Honorable Mention All-Star Cast awards.
“Our kids are some of the busiest kids on campus,” Howell said. “It’s cool to see kids from different areas of the school come together for a common purpose and put the show together.”
West Plains’ show, Women of Lockerbie placed first and Randall’s show, The Book of Everything took second place.
All three CISD schools will compete at the Bi-District Competition March 29 in Lubbock, six shows will compete but only three shows will advance to the Area competition in April.
