The CISD College & Career Fair-Senior Day is tomorrow at West Texas A&M University in the Alumni Center and Piehl-Schaeffer Pavillion. All CISD seniors are required to attend the event while freshmen, sophomores and juniors take the PSAT.
“CISD worked with the regional director of Texas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers [TACRAO] to set a date for this event in the spring before the college fair in the fall,” College Career Military Readiness Advisor Cenee Precure said. “The CCMR Counselors of each CISD high school work together to coordinate the event and work with WTAMU Admissions Department to host the event.”
Over 50+ colleges, military recruiters and trade schools will be present and available for students to visit at the College & Career Fair.
“There are many faculty members from each high school that help go to this event as sponsors and travel with seniors throughout the sessions,” Precure said.
Business teacher Marcie Cook has attended several CISD College & Career Fair prior to this year. Cook guides tours and answers questions about college at the Fair.
“I have observed [at the CISD College & Career Fair] our CHS students having a great experience actually being able to visit a college campus firsthand,” Cook said. “They get to talk to different colleges and universities about opportunities that they may not even know exist. I hope the students will get to experience a little bit of what college life looks like while we are [attending].”
Senior Alejandra Fruetel aspires to go to the University of Arkansas. She plans on speaking to them at the CISD College & Career Fair.
“I’m hoping to learn more about the dorms and admissions process,” Fruetel said. “I want to learn what they’re looking for in students and possibly scholarship opportunities and applications.”
Precure said she hopes that all students will benefit from interacting with the different colleges and other resources who will be there.
“I hope seniors will realize what a great opportunity CISD gives them by having this event and practically bringing college and university reps from across the nation to our front door here in Canyon,” Precure said. “Whether you know what your plans are after high school or not, this is a time for seniors to explore their options and ask questions about their future.”
