Choir students to audition at Area
After Pre-Area auditions in December, 13 of the 28 Canyon High students who auditioned will advance to the Area auditions Jan. 13 in Midland. Students who place high enough at the Area audition will sing in the TMEA All-State Choir in San Antonio Feb. 17.
Choir director Brandon Farren said the students were well prepared for the Pre-Area audition.
“I knew we were prepared because we have about a month in between each competition,” Farren said. “The kids have done the work. I knew it was going to be a good day for us, but you never know when it comes to competitions. It’s kind of up there in the air, what happens, but the kids did the best they could to prepare.”
Farren said it is hard to watch students who have worked hard not make it as far as they had hoped.
“The hard part about competitions is you get these kids who you love and they’ve poured themselves into it, and they don’t go on,” Farren said. “It’s always a shock, and it’s always hard to lose the ones you love. I want every single one of them to make it, so even if it was just one it would be heartbreaking.”
