PTSA Reflections competition entries due Oct. 31
The Parent Teacher Association Reflection art pieces are due to the office Tuesday, Oct. 31. For students to participate, they must be a Parent Teacher Student Association member or pay the $7 dollar membership fee.
The theme of this year’s reflections is “Within Reach” with six available mediums. Dance choreography, literature, film production, photography, music composition, and visual arts can be used for the reflections. Visual arts consists of 2D original print, drawing, painting, collage, metal etching, punch work, fiber work or computer-generated artwork. The PTSA membership forms and the official rules for the program are on the table outside the office.
“Within Reach could mean your athletic goal, academic goals or career goals,” PTSA president Sandra Allison said. “It could go all different directions as far as what that theme means to you. That’s what’s so cool to watch with the exhibits because people take them totally differently.”
The artwork must be the original work of one student only. Only pieces of artwork specifically influenced by this year’s theme can be entered in the program.
“Instead of enjoying someone else’s work or embellishing on someone else’s work, you’re the creator,” Allison said. “I think a lot of kids don’t have time to see that they have control. When it comes to fine arts, you have control over what is created and what is displayed. This gives kids a great outlet for that expression.”
