Assistant principal Juanita Muncy was named Region 16 Assistant Principal of the Year.

Juanita Muncy, an assistant principal at Canyon High, has been named the Region 16 Assistant Principal of the Year from among all the other nominated high school assistant principals in our region for the 2013-14 school year.

“They take all the nominations from Region 16 and they give them to a committee who decides the winner and announces it,” Muncy said. “I didn’t even know I was nominated until Mr. Gilliland called me and said, ‘Hey guess what?  You’re Assistant Principal of the Year for Region 16.’”

Muncy said that the award wasn’t just about the recognition.

“It’s nice to be appreciated and to have some good words said,” Muncy said.

As a disciplinary principal, Muncy said she frequently gets negative phone calls.

“It feels good when you do get a call and they are actually saying ‘thank you’ and ‘good job’ instead of somebody being upset with you for some reason,” Muncy said. “You think ‘Wow, there are so many others who work just as hard as I do and probably do more than I do and they chose me.’ It’s very humbling.”
