Band performs ensembles for public tonight
In preparation for the UIL Solo and Ensemble contest, band members will perform ensembles for the public today at 6 p.m. in the CHS commons.
“The purpose is to have the kids play in a concert environment, get over their initial stage fright and to hear themselves in an environment other than a practice room, which is a lot livelier,” assistant band director Luis Hernandez said.
The band members will perform for the UIL Solo and Ensemble contest this Saturday. If they receive a first division, they will advance to the UIL State contest in Austin May 24.
“At state, what they expect is basically playing what’s on the page,” Hernandez said. “The need to play the right tempo and the right style. Researching some of the composers, how they wrote and why they wrote the way they did usually helps so they can get the right spirit of the piece.”
