Choir to host Desserts on Broadway, Boys’ Night Out

Backdrops for Desserts on Broadway were ready to put into place Friday afternoon.

The choir program will host two concerts, Desserts on Broadway, Jan. 25 and Boys’ Night Out, Jan. 28. Desserts on Broadway will start in the CHS commons  at 7 p.m.  Boys’ Night Out will be presented in the CHS auditorium.

In recent years, the choir program hosted concerts focused on specific decades of music. Desserts on Broadway will be a dessert theater performance with 13 student acts from a variety of Broadway shows and other movie musicals. Desserts will be provided and served to attendees by choir students in between acts.

“It’s a little different format,” head choir director Brandon Farren said. “We’ve kind of cut away from the decades, so it’s a lot less business.”

Farren said students picked their own music for auditions  and practice times were their responsibility. He said it is a great opportunity for students to express their talents.

“I’m really excited about seeing all the acts,” freshman Chayse Armstrong said. “I want to see what it’s like performing in front of people and what other people do to show their talents.”

The intermediate through high school men’s choirs will perform Monday, Jan. 28 in the third annual Boys’ Night Out concert.  The concert consists of each of the three choirs, intermediate boys, junior high boys and chorale men performing two pieces. The concert will close with all boys and men piece. Farren said there will be approximately 150 boys and men on stage during the closer.

“It’s a great recruiting tool for our program because we want those boys to stay involved and see what it’s like,” Farren said. “It’s also great cause you get to show the audience and these younger boys that it’s okay to be a man in choir, that there’s nothing weird about it or strange, and that you singing is part of who we are and how God made us.”
