My wife’s grandparents, Eddie and Sunny, both served in the US Navy during World War II. About 1 1/2 years ago, they had the opportunity to travel to Washington, DC, as a part of the Veterans Honor Flight. At first, many people did not realize that Sunny (my grandmother-in-law) was a veteran because so few women served in the military at that time. However, as people on the trip realized she was also a veteran, she felt an increased respect from the people with whom she was traveling. They were able to meet with an admiral, who thanked them for their service all those years ago, and the two of them laid a wreath at the Navy Memorial on behalf of all of the veterans on that trip.

My favorite veteran is my grandfather, Douglass Wooten, who served in Vietnam. I also want to honor my Uncle James Trumbly, who served in the military. Thank you to all who served or is currently serving.

My favorite veteran is my dad, Leon Henley, who served in Japan and Korea during the Korean War. I also want to honor my Uncle Larry Haynes, who served in the Army during Vietnam, my grandfather Willis Cato, who was in WWII, and my cousin Grady Parr, who is an active Marine. Thank you to all veterans, past and present!
