The human trafficking awareness campaign on March 27 raised more than $200 for the organization Traffick911 and resulted in the formation of a new campus organization called “End It CHS.”
Traffick911 is an organization based in Dallas that works to provide care for rescued human trafficking victims. The group was created to promote awareness for the issue of human trafficking. “End It CHS” will participate in various human trafficking awareness opportunities within the next couple of months.
“We have created an Run to End It team that will run at the color run in Amarillo on June 15,” sophomore Bella Barnett said.
The organization is campus wide and welcomes anyone interested in contributing to its activities.
“I’ve enjoyed getting involved with End It CHS because I’ve had several people ask me about human trafficking which lets me know it makes a difference,” senior Rachel Smith said. “One of the biggest issues with human trafficking is that many people don’t know it even exists. Raising awareness is the catalyst for change.”
Barnett said that the group encourages anyone interested in learning more about the issue or how to get involved to contact one of the group members.
“We as human beings have a moral and global responsibility to our fellow human beings,” senior Erik Burdett said. “It is our responsibility to ensure that others who are in trouble are able to pursue their own happiness. That is why we, as “End It CHS” members, strive to educate our community.”
Anyone interested in purchasing an “End It” t-shirt can contact the speech teacher, Stefanie Suto, to place an order. They shirts cost $10 and all profits will go to Traffick911.
