Principal Tim Gilliland was awarded the Texas Music Educators Association’s Distinguished Administrator award Thursday for his commitment to preserving quality music education experiences for all students.
The Texas Music Educators Association’s Distinguished Administrator award is given to upper-level school administrators in the state who preserve quality music education programs on their campuses or in their districts. The recognition program gives the TMEA the opportunity to thank administrators for their support and dedication on a state level. Administrators must be nominated to be considered for the award.
“The entire administration supports the fine arts, and the community does too,” Gilliland said. “It’s easy to support them when the students and directors are so talented. It makes it fun to go see plays, concerts and musicals.”
Gilliland was nominated for this award by choir direction Brandon Farren and said it was very unexpected.
“I think it’s an award I would share with the other principals,” Gilliland said. “We all work hard to support the fine arts at Canyon High, along with other extracurricular activities.”
