Twenty-six members of the Canyon High School choir qualified for All-District choir on Sept. 29 and will be competing for the All-Region choir next Saturday.
In the month prior to All-Region, members have learned three songs that they will sing during a blind audition in front of judges. From those results, the contenders will be placed in chairs, or ranks. Then, they will sight read a piece of music that they have never seen before. From that performance, they will be rated based on their musicality, tone and how many mistakes they made while sight reading. The top chairs qualify for the last level, All-State.
“I get involved with All-State because it’s a way for me to see how hard work can directly be rewarded,” senior Jessica Crump said. “Literally what you put into it is what you get out of it.”
Senior Tasneem Alvi said that the most rewarding aspect of All-Region choir is knowing that she sang her best and glorified God through her performance.
“I prepare for the audition process by hours of practice every week,” senior Abigail Walsh said. “It is terrifying to see that this much work is put into a five minute audition, but it pays off when you are singing in the region choir and seeing the songs’ effects on the audience.”
