On Sept. 11, 2001, I was working part time for Harold’s clothing store in Norman, Oklahoma. My children were 5 and 3. I walked into work that morning and immediately, my boss told me that a plane had crashed into the World Trade Center. Normally, I turn on the news every morning when I wake up, but for some reason I had not watched that day. I was shocked and stunned as all of the employees gathered around a computer to watch the footage. I will always remember the feelings I had that day because all of the Harold’s clothing stores in all cities closed for business for the day. I remember thinking how irrelevant it was to be in a clothing store when there were so many suffering and losing their lives and family members. It is amazing how quickly your perspective can change from being so worried about the new fall line of clothing to being worried about our great country and the implications that this attack would have for our children and the future. I was relieved to leave work and get home as quickly as I could to be with my family. I spent hours in front of the television that day and for many days to come. September 11, 2001 is a day that I will never forget.
