The Glee Club, ‘Platinum,’ earned fourth place at Showfest in Albuquerque, NM April 10.
Twelve groups competed in Showfest, where only the top four show choirs advance to finals. ‘Platinum’ advanced to finals during their first year to compete.
“While they were announcing finals, the kids were tired and getting ready to go,” director Troy Larson said. “They thought there was no way they were going on. When they called our name, the kids went absolutely crazy. It was almost like we had won because we only rehearsed months on our first year and the other groups have rehearsed since August and have been doing this for years and years.”
The other three finalists had groups of 40-50 students, whereas ‘Platinum’ consisted of 24.
“We beat out schools that have been placing in the top four for the last 20 years,” Larson said. “The judge said she could tell we had true heart on stage.”
Larson said now that he has proven the show choir successful and earned support from parents, next year be easier.
“It was such an accomplishment,” Larson said. “Next year is going to be bigger and better.”
