On Wednesday, May 14, the inaugural fine arts signing took place in the lower commons from 4:30-5:30, recognizing 12 seniors and their further education in the fine arts program.
“This has been precipitated by numerous trips to all-state, numerous appearances in theater and numerous appearances at the VASE competition. ” Chris Hawkins, Canyon fine arts and academics coordinator, said. “These student’s contributions to what has been going on in Canyon ISD has led it to be one of the best communities for music education in the country.”
The signing was coordinated by Tara Thomas, who created a slideshow featuring images of each senior and answers to questions they’ve been asked about their futures.
“The directors have given a little bit of help,” Hawkins said, “But Mrs. Thomas has really been the one who spearheaded this to honor the students tonight.”
The students were called up to the front of the room, where their quotes were read as they signed their named with their friends and family around them.
“It is a point in pride, we are very proud of all the student,” Hawkins said, “Congratulations to all of them.”
