Homecoming king, queen crowned
Senior Treet Allison was named homecoming king at halftime of the Powder Puff game Thursday night, and senior Calista Winings was crowned homecoming queen before Friday night’s game against Hereford. King and queen were elected by the entire student body.
The queen’s court included Hanna Green, Tori Merkel and Izzy Wheeler.
“It’s a blessing and an honor to have this opportunity,” Winings said. “I was surprised and excited. I hugged my dad, and I felt really happy and appreciated by my student body. I was going to be happy for whoever won.”
Students selected Trey Harris, Derius Jones and Garrett Cobb to the homecoming king court. Allison’s four older brothers were each elected homecoming their senior years. Even so, he said he did not feel pressured to win but was glad to receive the crown, completing the family tradition.
“Having my peers choose me as the homecoming king was extremely honoring to say the least,” Allison said. “The guys I was standing with on the powder puff field are all great guys and represent different parts of the school, so there was no way of telling who was going to receive the crown.”
Allison said he wants to do his best to represent the school well.
“To be the homecoming king isn’t just about being voted in by my peers,” Allison said. “Now I need to uphold the image of Canyon High.”
