The high school choir will present their variety show at 7:00 p.m. Monday, May 18 in the auditorium.

The varsity, non-varsity and show choir will perform several pieces including “We Will Rock You” and “Pseudo Yoik” in addition to the 10 songs prepared by individual students and bands. Five more acts will perform during the pre-show at 6:30. Students who wish to perform individually or with bands had to audition for choir director Brandon Farren and assistant choir director Kelli Harter. Songs from various genres will be performed, including pop, country, folk and chorale music. The concert will be a casual format and is free.

“It’s a fun way to break the monotony of our contest season,” Farren said. “Things are so serious during contest, so this is an easy way to let the kids do something they like. People will be very entertained. They get to see the incredible talent and work of the choir students.”

Freshman Josiah Dye will sing and play piano with senior Madison Younger during the pre-show to “My Lighthouse” by Rend Collective Experiment.

“We chose that song because it is very upbeat, and it’s very fun, and we can worship God through it,” Dye said. “I am trying out for variety show because I love music and want to express music. Choir is the best school experience I have ever gone through, and I can’t wait for these next three years.”

Sophomore Christian Theiss will sing and play guitar with freshman Mitchell Hernandez to “Too Close” by Alex Claire and a Taylor Swift mash up of “Blank Space” and “Style” with sophomore Maddie Farren.

“I chose the one for me and Mitchell because we are doing a different rendition of it, and it has a lot of vocal runs,” Theiss said. “I picked mine and Maddie’s because we are tight and like best friends. We like the setup of it.”

Senior Keegan Fenton will sing and play the tambourine in “Rivers and Roads” by The Head and the Heart with juniors Jonathon Crump and Libby Belcher.

“With ‘Rivers and Roads,’ I absolutely love that song,” Fenton said. “At the beginning, it talks about a year from now we will all be gone and our friends will move away. It feels relevant because of college.”

Theiss said he is trying out for Variety Show because it is a special opportunity.

“We do it every year, but this is it,” Theiss said. “This is where I get to show my talent. I don’t do it for the glory and the talent. I do it because I love music. Music is life.”
