Seniors Macy Wright and Kassi Price were part of the DCON delegation from Canyon High .

Key Club won five awards at a DCON ceremony in Dallas April 9-12 during the organization’s district convention.

The awards included the“All Reports on Time” award, first place in the t-shirt contest, the “Early Bird” award (all of the dues were turned in early), the 75 percent increased membership award, and Key Club’s district project, “Eliminate.” Key Club hosted Trick or Treat for UNICEF last fall for their district project to raise money for children who, when born, could develop neonatal tetanus. The money raised provided vaccinations for the women and children affected. Secretary and senior Macy Wright said her favorite part about the district project was helping women in need.

“Knowing that only a $1.80 could save the lives of a mother and her future children from maternal and neonatal tetanus had to be my favorite part,” Wright said.

Wright is responsible for turning in monthly reports to the district secretary.

“At the awards banquet in Dallas, we won the outstanding on time patch because I turned in all of my reports in on time,” Wright said.

Senior and Key Club president Kassi Price said she liked the district project because of the women and children who were saved because of the vaccinations.

“My favorite part about ‘Eliminate’ was learning how many women and children we could affect with the money we raised,” Price said.

Price also said she liked that the amendments at the “House of Delegates meeting” at the Dallas convention only took a couple of minutes.

“Key Club was the best part of my high school career,” Price said. “Being able to help people in so many ways was really encouraging.”
