To raise money for HOSA’s medical competition trips, faculty members will play basketball against KVII News Channel 7 next Monday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. in the gym. Admission is $2 at the door.
HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) is a 118-member organization for students interested in pursuing a career in the medical field. In addition to community service projects, HOSA members compete in district, area and state rounds of competition. Health sciences teacher and HOSA sponsor Michele Barton said the organization travels all over the state.“We have events such as CERT team, EMT team, CPR team, Clinical Nursing, First Aid & Rescue, Medical Reading, Physical Therapy and Sport Medicine to name a few,” Barton said. “That is why we must fundraise, to pay entry fees and travel expenses.”
The proceeds from Monday’s game will go toward competitive trips to Lubbock and Galveston this year. HOSA members will host a bake sale and concession stand at the game as well as help with referees and coaching. Barton said the KVII News Channel 7 team is excited about being a part of helping out the organization.
“I have spoken to the sports anchor several times, and they are really excited about coming to Canyon,” Barton said.
