The school’s production of The Sound of Music will open Thursday, Oct. 25 and will be performed again on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets will be sold at the door.
The Sound of Music is set musical set the 1930s and follows the story of an Austrian nun, Maria, played by senior Marissa Hernandez, who leaves her convent to become the governess of a Naval officer, played by junior Christian Farren. Maria must now face the challenge of taming the troublesome Van Trapp children, returning music to the Van Trapp home and protecting the family that she has grown to love. “I’m most excited to get to work one last time with the kids I’ve worked in musicals with all through high school,” Hernandez said.
Hernandez played Dorothy in the school’s production of The Wizard of Oz last year and said she is looking forward to playing a more mature character.
“It’ll be nice to not play a child and get a different kind of role,” Hernandez said. “Plus, Maria gets to sing a lot more than Dorothy did.”
Playing Captain Von Trapp will be Farren’s first major lead role in a school musical. Farren also played the Guard in the Wizard of Oz last year.
“It’s kind of nerve-racking to have a lead role, but hopefully it will turn out well,” Farren said.
Farren said that he is most excited to work with the great cast and fantastic stage crew that the musical has.
“The crew is hilarious and they’re very good at their jobs,” Hernandez said. “I think the cast is great, and it’s filled with a lot of very, very talented people.”
