Canyon High School students will sport vibrant pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month at the “Pink Out” Homecoming game, Friday, Oct.15 at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium in Canyon.
The student council is selling $10 “Pink Out” t-shirts and $1 bracelets at their booth at Fair on the Square this weekend in Canyon. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the merchandise sold will benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation for Breast Cancer Research.
“This Homecoming, we want to turn the stadium pink,” senior student council officer Trevor Davis said. “We wanted a different project to do, so we thought about how West Texas A&M has a ‘Maroon out’ for their homecoming and decided to have a ‘Pink out’.”
In the first week of selling the apparel, the student council sold over 300 t-shirts, and has since sold between 700 and 800 shirts.
Student council sponsor Jana Meyer encouraged students and fans to wear pink even if they do not buy the “Pink Out” shirts.
“The shirts are just one way to give back,” Meyer said. “We want the entire community to be involved in this project.”
Senior student council officers Rachael Carlton and Kenzie Lawson said they thought the “Pink Out” was a great way to give back to the community.
“We really liked the idea,” Carlton said. “This is probably the best service project we have been involved in during our high school careers.”
