Twenty students placed at the Randall Invitational Academic UIL competition on Saturday Feb. 13. The large school competition included Randall, Lubbock High and Canyon.
The Current Events team placed first, with Ellie Ward taking 2nd place and Eddie Kahler taking 5th place.
Literary Criticism also got 1st place with Krista Faucette taking 2nd, Maddison Sigler 3rd, and Kristen Babcock 4th.
The Journalism team earned 1st place team. In News Writing, Eddie Kahler placed 2nd, with Rachel Smith in 3rd, Morgan Hicks in 4th and Chandler Shaw in 5th place.
Tori Waddell received 1st in feature writing, while Shelbie Belott was awarded 4th and Lauren Hahn was awarded 6th.
In editorial writing, Madison Ferril placed 2nd, Natalie Brown placed 4th and Jayden Beatty placed 5th.
In Headline Writing, Trevor Ferril scored 2nd, Kyleigh Head earned 3rd, and Ellie Ward received 5th.
Competing in Social Studies, Lee Alexander placed 5th.
In Ready Writing Jackie Walsh placed 2nd, Jennifer Harvel placed 3rd, and Madison Ferril placed 4th.
In Math Josh Backus placed 5th overall and also placed 3rd among seniors.
Trevor Ferril placed 2nd in the freshman division of number sense.
The UIL academic team next competes at the District 3-AAAA Meet at WTAMU March 26.
