Students participating in the all-school musical open Thursday night with “The Music Man.” The cast will perform again Saturday night at 7:30 and Sunday afternoon at 2:30. Tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for students. The show lasts about two hours with intermission.
More than one-hundred fifty students are involved with the musical this year, including 86 cast members and 15 tech members. There will also be approximately 50 band students performing during the musical. Choir director Branden Farren said that he thinks Canyon’s performance of “The Music Man” will be distinguishable because of the high number of students involved.
“It’s exciting because there are so many warm bodies on stage,” Brandon Farren said.
Senior Josiah Robinson plays Harold Hill the con man while junior Blair Carpenter plays Marian the librarian.
“We have a very talented cast,” drama director David Yirak said.
In contrast to last years’ production of “Grease,” “The Music Man,” set in 1912, will entertain the audience with a story that follows a more conventional plot.
“This one is a lot more traditional,” Farren said.
“The Music Man” will be most enjoyed by those who like musicals such as “The Sound of Music” and “Carousel.”
