Students will donate all funds from “No Shave November” and “Change for Change” to Pabbo Secondary School in northern Uganda as an effort for Invisible Children with Schools for Schools.
The two fundraisers are for “Schools for Schools,” an organization that allows any school in the US to raise money for schools in Uganda that have suffered because of twenty-three years of war. Money goes to equipment, buildings, resources and other educational materials.
Sophomore Payton Noel registered Canyon High School and said she is excited about the fundraisers.
“I heard about Schools for Schools over the summer from one of my brothers friends,” Noel said. “I spend the summer and early fall contacting Invisible Children and registering our school.”
Sponsor Tanner Hargrove said he learned about the charity before Noel had set the initiative.
“I actually learned about Invisible Children during a TOMS shoe drop off in South America,” Hargrove said. “It’s my favorite organization right now. It’s very cutting edge and new.”
Schools and universities sign up to raise money each semester and enter a competition of raising the most funds. The campus with the largest donation can send one student representative to Uganda to see the organization at work.
“Come January, we will be more organized and participate in the competition,” Hargrove said.
Students can still join the cause and sign up for “No Shave November” by raising money, avoiding razor use and agreeing to wear a mustache during the first week of December to raise the most funds.
