“It’s [COVID-19] robbing us of our senior year,” senior Madelyn Permberton said. “Second semester is supposed to be fun. Because of the school being shut down, we’re missing out on our senior prank, senior skip day, prom and so many little moments in between. The way things are looking right now, that Friday before spring break was probably our last day of high school, and we didn’t even know it. A lot of underclassman can look at cancellations and say ‘well, at least I have next year.’ I don’t have next year; this was it. And next year everything will go back to normal, and they’ll get their normal senior year, but we don’t get that.”

“I can’t leave my home to visit with friends because of the restrictions, and I’m not one for keeping in touch through my phone and texting every single day, so I don’t really get to talk to my friends much. The one-act team has a group chat, and we all video chat pretty often on there. That’s pretty much the only way I’m able to talk to anyone. I’ve been doing one-act for all four years of high school, and it’s upsetting I won’t be able to finish it. It’s especially disappointing because this year’s cast and crew have worked so hard and presented a beautiful show at district. I wish we could have seen how far it would have gone. Even though our year is being taken from us, we need to look at the bright side of things: we still get our graduation when others around the country don’t. And hey, I think this whole situation makes us one of the most unique classes to pass through Canyon High’s halls.”
