“This summer I am going to be working at Hidden Falls Ranch, a Christian summer camp,” junior Tori Ross said. “This is my second year to do it. Being a camp counselor has helped me a lot–learning how to co-lead. It’s a lot about responsibility and how to work with others. You are working with one or two other girls in your cabin that are about your age, and you have to learn how to lead the kids. You have to make sure they are behaving and getting done what they need to get done. I love the people I get to work with, because everyone just has a very similar mindset of, ‘This is about the campers–it’s not about me.’ It’s just really harmonious. When I was a little kid I would have counselors, and I wanted to be just like them. The counselors I had were all such great role models, so I had always grown up saying, ‘I can’t wait to do that.’ Whenever the opportunity came up to train to be a counselor, I jumped at the opportunity, because it’s what I’ve always wanted to do. It’s the best job in the world I could’ve asked for.”
