“I have diabetes,” sophomore Jeremy Lawson said. “It has helped me keep more control over my life, because I have to watch what I eat and do. I found out I had diabetes when I just turned 11 in fifth grade. We don’t have a history of diabetes in my family. When I was first diagnosed, my blood sugar was 1136, and the normal is 130. It was a little high. It was a shocker. I didn’t understand what it was when I first heard about it. So I’m sitting here, and all of my family is freaking out, and I thought, ‘Should I be freaking out?’  I think it has been positive, because it helped me change into a good person.  Having to stay active has gotten me out more, and I am more social and interactive than I was before.”
