The Eagle's Tale staff celebrates being named a Columbia Scholastic Press Association Crown Finalist. The exclusive award goes to the top online school newspapers in the country. Four of the 14 finalists are from Texas schools. The Silver or Gold Crown will be awarded to The Eagle's Tale in New York City at Columbia University in March 2017. After weeks of hair pulling, interviewing, photo editing, crying and caption writing, the yearbook staff has 11 days until they must submit their page spreads to Jostens for the December deadline.

Ten faculty members spent the majority of Sunday decorating the school to surprise their students with a festive gift. When the students walked into the commons area they discovered The Polar Express complete with faculty members' personality-filled photos in the trains' windows. Walls of Christmas trees in the snow, pillars wrapped as giant drink cups and ornaments hanging from the ceiling spread...

Instead of studying eight maids-a-milking, students in the agricultural department are learning about the trends and issues in today's agricultural world. CHS celebrates after raising $1,640 for the United Way non-profit organization. The students and staff joined forces to raise the money with a lip-sync battle and a turkey leg competition. See the lip sync winners Maroon 4, along with other performances below.

The Lady Eagle basketball team will begin district play against Hereford at home Dec. 13. The team began practicing five days every week in October to prepare for the season.

The Canyon High School choirs will perform their annual Christmas concert at 7 p.m. tonight, Dec. 12. Choirs include the Troubadours, Chorale, Chamber and the show choir, Ovation. Between performances, seniors from the program who plan to study music in college will lead the audience in singing Christmas carols. ...

The Canyon band will perform their winter concert tonight, Dec. 13. The band from the intermediate school will begin the performance at 6 p.m., followed by the three junior high school bands. The three high school bands will begin their performances around 8 p.m. Songs from the show will include "Salvation is Created," "Paris Sketches" and "Sleigh Ride."...

No French hens were to be found, but these three artificial doves on the commons Christmas tree will be lonely with so many students exempt from finals with only three days of school left before break officially begins.

"Two turtlenecks and shirt bearing sad Harambe" keep yearbook editor-in-chief Sarah Nease, newspaper staffer Braden Lefevre and associate yearbook editor Macy Mitchell warm now that the weather is finally turning cold.
