“It was pretty overwhelming at first,” sophomore Liza Nisen said. “We moved because of my dad’s job. We had been living in Peru for 12-15 years, so we needed a new beginning. My dad looked at a map, because he’s a pilot, and picked the middle. We like small towns, and he decided he wanted to live in Texas, so we picked Canyon. We didn’t have a plan. We came here with no car and no house. We just landed with two suitcases. It’s been a struggle, but it’s gotten easier.”
