“I run a lot, I do cross-country and I also ride horses,” junior Ellie Brown said. “I’m training a horse right now. She is a Grulla Quarter horse. We got her from a breeding place down in Gainesville, Texas. This is my first horse I’m training, but I’ve ridden horses since I was 11. My parents were both involved in riding horses–my mom did rodeo, and my dad worked in a feed yard. It was just kind of always an interest of mine. I did cutting for these past two or three years, so I’m training her to participate in ranch cuttings. Sometimes it can get really frustrating, and you have to sit back and know you’re trying to train a whole other object. They don’t communicate with you, so you have to really work at patience and time management.”
