Students and the community are invited to participate in homecoming festivities throughout the week.

Homecoming week will be filled with powderpuff practices, floats covered in decorations and of course, mums and garters.

The homecoming game against Palo Duro will be Friday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. following the 6:30 p.m. crowning of the homecoming queen at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium.

Student organizations, athletic teams and the band will participate in the homecoming parade Thursday Oct. 19 beginning at 5 p.m. at the University Church of Christ parking lot. The parade will end at CHS where the powderpuff game will begin at 7:00 p.m. The homecoming king will be announced during half-time of the powderpuff game.

“The seniors and sophomores are probably going to win the powderpuff game, because right now, there are no juniors or freshman signed up,” teacher and powderpuff game coordinator Steven Thrasher said. “Step up, freshman and juniors, and go beat the seniors.”

Seniors Matthew Wright, Merritt Jones, Brantley Spinks, Parker Duggan, Brent Stockstill and Logan Koch will coach the senior and sophomore team at the powderpuff game.

“I expect a lot of trash talking,” Stockstill said. “I expect a dub.”

Koch and Jones both predicted the score for the game to be a complete blowout of 42-0.

“This should be an easy game for us,” Jones said.  “We just have to execute plays right.”

Wright said the coaches have a playbook and big plans.

“We don’t have any trick plays,” Wright said.  “I can’t give away any plays before Thursday night.”

Koch said they will have a lockdown defense and a no huddle offense against the juniors and freshman.

“We have Cecily Koch, Cadie Hufnagle and Courtney Williams,” Koch said.  “Williams has a cannon arm.”
