The Varsity football team will take on the Dumas Demons Oct. 21 after defeating the Palo Duro Dons Thursday, Oct. 13.

I’m proud to be a part of the team and to be a part of Canyon. It’s a good legacy to have.

— Lawton Rikel, 10

The Eagles started off the game with two touchdowns in the first quarter. Each team scored one touchdown during the second quarter, the Dons scoring an additional field goal. The first half ended with a score of 21-10. The Eagles continued to outscore the Dons throughout the second half, with a final score of 36-23 . Sophomore Lawton Rikel said the team dynamic contributes to their success this season.

“It’s fun to go out there and play with my teammates and compete with them knowing they have my back,” Rikel said. “I’m proud to be a part of the team and to be a part of Canyon. It’s a good legacy to have.”

The victory over Palo Duro brings the Eagles to a win loss record of 6-1. Rikel said the Eagles expect to win against Dumas this Friday.

“We want the district championship,” Rikel said. “It’s hard work being up here every single day after school. It’s tiring but everyone gives 100 percent every day.”
