Presidents Day weekend Feb. 15-18

Students will have a long weekend beginning Feb. 15.

In honor of Presidents Day, students will take Friday, Feb. 15 and Monday, Feb. 18 off. Teachers will have a staff development day Friday and will be off Monday.

Students and teachers will return to school Tuesday, Feb. 19 on collaboration bell schedule.

Canyon High School’s show, Anatomy of Grey by Jim Leonard placed third against seven other schools. Several students received individual awards that recognized their hard work; senior Alijana Stewart received Best Stage Manager award in the Technical Awards division, junior Aubrey Webb received an All-Star Cast award, juniors Reece Meyer and Trace Thomas received the Honorable Mention All-Star Cast awards.

Sophomore Makalyn Lee donates blood at the Winter 2024 Blood Drive. “Donated blood assists in a lot of medical procedures like surgery or after traumatic accidents,” Key Club co-sponsor Lance Culbert said. “One of the things that I did not realize until recently is that blood and platelets are given to a lot of cancer patients that are undergoing chemotherapy because their blood counts go down because of the chemotherapy.”

Courtney Ma, the Family and Student Advocate for the Canyon schools, is now stationed at Canyon High School. “I know that mental health is such a need in our community. And especially within teenagers as an age group,” Ma said. “Its very needed, and Im glad to be able to come in, alongside families and teachers and be able to help support kids whenever they feel like theyre really struggling or they really need help.”
