“I signed a contract the day I turned 17 to join the active duty component of the United States Army,” senior Travis Roberts said. “After I graduate high school, I get a grace period. From there, they’ll send me to basic training, to advanced individual training and then to my duty station. I have a deep sense of pride for my country. I have a deep sense of protection for my family, and it advances my opportunities when I’m done compared to a college degree, which now doesn’t mean as much as it did back in the ’80s. Now, a college degree doesn’t mean much, but you have to have work experience with it. That’s where the military offering a college degree and experience puts you ahead of the game. I’m looking into going into the criminal justice field and continuing my civic duties while I advance my career paths.”
