Senior Bailey DeBerry performed the duet “Love is an Open Door” in January 2014 during her junior year with then sophomore Justin Johnston.

The high school choir will present Desserts on Broadway at 7:00 Jan. 24 in the high school commons. Students will perform songs from Broadway shows and movies, and they will serve various desserts.

The varsity choir and show choir will perform a few songs, but most of the music is prepared by individuals or ensembles. Audience members will be seated at tables where they can eat dessert and watch the show. The performance is free, but the choir will take donations which will go toward the choir program.

“We are so serious during the spring semester with contest, solo and ensemble, and All-State, this is a fun way to give the kids a break and do something that is not too serious,” choir director Brandon Farren said. “This is a chance for them to do what they want to do.”

It is the most entertaining hour you could ever have while eating dessert, and it is going to be a great show.

Junior Blakelee Brownd said she is auditioning to sing “The Song that Goes Like This” from “Spamalot” with junior Justin Johnston. She is also planning to audition with juniors Hanna Green, Libby Belcher and Kayla Finke to sing “After Ever After.”

“‘The Song that Goes Like This’ is pretty much making fun of stereotypical Broadway songs in a funny way,” Brownd said. “’After Ever After’ has different princesses and they sing about what happens after the fairytale ends.”

Brownd said she enjoys the fun variety show that is enjoyable for everyone with the all-you-can-eat dessert.

“You will eat more desserts than you ever thought you could in your entire life,” Farren said. “It is the most entertaining hour you could ever have while eating dessert, and it is going to be a great show.”
