Sophomore Brailey McMinn snaps a quick picture hours before the “One Direction Where We Are” concert at the Dallas Cowboys AT&T stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Tens of thousands of girls, ages varying from Pre-K to college, poured into the Dallas Cowboys AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Aug. 24. These girls, most accompanied by a parent, were there for one reason only–to catch a glimpse of the teenage phenomenon known as One Direction.

The original opening act, 5 Seconds of Summer, was unable to perform because they were at the VMA awards. Jamie Scott, writer and co-writer of many One Direction songs, filled in for the band. Performing only four songs, Scott showed confidence playing in front of the largest group of people in his career. Although Scott did perform 45 minutes later than scheduled, he proved himself in front of the crowd. I was personally left disappointed because I had been looking forward to 5SOS.

After Scott walked off the stage, the whole audience waited in anticipation for the band they came to hear. Waited…and waited….and waited. I could see very little from my seat, in the nosebleeds, but just enough of backstage to see what was going on. My idols were riding bicycles backstage before performing in front of the largest concert held in North America. After waiting an hour between the opening act and One Direction, the five boys finally came out.

The first song, “Midnight Memories,” started with a loud explosion of fireworks. The boys jumped on stage and performed. After two or three songs, one of the members would pause to talk about how their day had been going, how huge the stadium was and how amazing the fans were. All of the boys were confident singing and proved to the crowd their love for what they do.

The two-hour show had many girls in the audience screaming, dancing, singing and crying. One Direction put on a phenomenal show and exhibited their love for music and for their fans. The concert was well worth the $100 ticket and would appeal to teenage girls. Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik are doing what many people dream of and giving fans higher standards for what they expect in a relationship.
