Creating is a way to detach from the world and chaos while bringing a smile to others’ faces.

There is nothing I enjoy more than getting something in the mail. It does not matter if it is a package or letter. Nothing is more exciting than seeing your name on a piece of mail. Mail has been one of the few things that has lifted my spirits recently, and knowing my friends were stuck in similar predicaments, I created a little something to brighten their isolation.

Whether it is elegant, geometric or even something I made up on the spot, I make sure it will be something the other person will love.

Using my various stickers from my favorite Etsy shops, beautiful paper and fun pens, I made four unique and equally cute letters for my dearest friends. I began with the simple craft paper envelopes which I may or may not have taken from my mother’s craft supplies. I prefer craft paper envelopes because of the vintage and warm feel they have. However, this is quarantine and definitely not a time to be picky. Use whatever you have on hand. A white envelope can be turned into faux craft paper with only watercolors or even a tea-dying method if you so desire.

Pinterest is my go-to when it comes to all things art. I love picking out fonts to use in my bullet journal or, in this case, letters. Personally, I like to pick fonts that reflect the person who is receiving it. Whether it is elegant, geometric or even something I made up on the spot, I make sure it will be something the other person will love. One method I have when addressing the envelope is simple but brings an added touch of personality. Using a marker or, my favorite, a Zebra Mildliner, I write their name in bigger letters either in a very simplistic or flowy font. Then I go back with my pen and rewrite their name in the middle using the opposite.

Especially in these times, it is important to support creators and small businesses.

After I write everything that I need, I gather scrap paper, stickers and other embellishments. Sticking to the chosen theme, I tear up paper in various sizes or pick from my ridiculously large scrap paper pile. Anything from paint samples to old bookmarks to gift bags, it all gets a second life. As I mentioned previously, I love ordering cute and fun stickers from Etsy. Especially in these times, it is important to support creators and small businesses. The majority of shop owners price their goods fairly, and some even offer free shipping. Many shops also carry washi tape and other kinds of fun embellishments.

It is important during our distancing to remain connected with our loved ones. Everyone needs a little extra love and kindness, so whether it is a video call, phone call or text, reach out to the people you smiled at in the hallway or made jokes with in fourth period. Something as simple as a letter could make someone’s whole week.
