FASFA Night is a come and go event from 5:30-9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18.

Seniors and their parents or guardians may attend FAFSA night Friday, Oct. 18 from 5:30-9 p.m in the 1300 hallway to receive assistance to apply for federal aid for college.

The Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA) is a form which calculates a student’s need for financial aid. While also providing a basis for federal grants and loans, the FAFSA is used for state-funded grants and scholarships from colleges and universities. Students only need to know their social security number to fill out the form.

No matter what your financial situation is at home, all colleges require it now.

— Cory Gropp, College & Career Counselor

“No matter what your financial situation is at home, all colleges require it now,” college and career counselor Cory Gropp said. “Even if your parents make a lot of money, this is how they determine scholarships from your financial aid package.”

The event is come and go and will offer professionals from Amarillo College and West Texas A&M to assist students. The event will also feature presentations by Opportunity Plan Inc and the Amarillo Area Foundation at 5:30 p.m., showcasing possible scholarships for students.

“Even if you don’t think you’re going to get financial aid from the government, that doesn’t mean you won’t get scholarships from the financial aid package you sent to your college,” Gropp said. “Free money is free money. If you get $500, you get paid $500 for being here 20 minutes, so it’s definitely worth it.”
